A cake that I bake with my husband before a trip to the country, a stunning spring aroma

Shepherd pieHis recipe came to us from far away Scotland. In the original, it was made from the remains of meat (mainly lamb, but in the course went any), potatoes and remnants of roast. So to speak, a dish in a hurry. Now the cake is made in a more modern way.



This dish is perfect for several people, for example, for a holiday. And it is quite hearty, and even men will say thank you, and women generally risk eating. So be wise to distribute portions when you decide to serve it.

Shepherd cake Ingredients
  • 1 kg of potatoes
  • 700g mince
  • 2 carrots
  • 2 bulbs
  • 50ml vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 100g hard cheese
  • egg
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • salt, spices


Preparation
  1. Wash and peel the potatoes. Cut it randomly. Boil water and cook potatoes. Then peel and rub the carrots on a large grater. Cut the onions with a small cube or grind a blender.


  2. Roast the onions in a frying pan with vegetable oil, add the carrots. Stew the food together on a small fire for about 10 minutes. Add mince to the pan and some water. Thoroughly mix all the ingredients and carcasses under the lid until the mince is ready. At the end, add the tomato paste, stir a little and salty.


  3. At the bottom of the form for baking, lay out the meat part and level it so that it is beautiful. Boiled potatoes turned into mashed potatoes, and water drained. In puree, add milk and egg, as well as salt and spices. Beat it and put it on top of the meat layer. Straighten it, too.


  4. Tablespoon give the potato layer a minimum relief. Sod the cheese on the grater and rash on the surface of the future cake. In an oven heated to 200 degrees, bake the dish for about 40 minutes. Up to the golden crust on top.




As you can see, nothing complicated: one layer on the other, a little cheese and in the oven. It's like a casserole. The appearance and taste will surprise anyone. By the way, for those who do not like to eat dry, we advise you to use this dish with different sauces, for example, ordinary ketchup is good.
