With the development of the service sector, the tradition of leaving extra money in Western countries took root almost everywhere. Tips were left to doormen, bartenders, maids, and taxi drivers. As for the staff in taverns and other eateries, for a long time the workers here did without pay, and lived only on tips.

In the United States, tipping any service worker is a tradition. But in France, for example, service fees in restaurants and cafes are automatically included in the bill, so you do not need to pay extra. Although especially satisfied visitors can leave 5-10% over the mandatory amount. And this is seen as a gesture of special gratitude to the client.



Should I leave a tip? In Soviet times, the practice of tipping was condemned. However, taxi drivers, as a rule, “there was no change”, so it became normal to round the amount up. And hairdressers regular customers paid a little more for their efforts. Tipping began to be given in other areas every time for fast and high-quality service.

The salaries of modern waiters are small. And people go into the service sector just because of the prospect of additional earnings due to tips from grateful customers. And if the service level is really good, why not add the same 5-10%?



Moreover, in different institutions, the team independently builds a model of splitting tips. Often collect all tips in one “pot”, and at the end of the shift is divided into the whole state. And so it goes to waiters, and cooks, and bartenders, and cleaners. But again, it all depends on each particular institution.

Also, you should not think that being a good waiter is so easy. After all, this person must understand the dishes and drinks to give good advice. It creates a good atmosphere and smooths out unpleasant moments.
