Why you can not remove fat locally

Where does fat go?

The fat in our body is mainly stored in fat cells – lipocytes – as a chemical called triglyceride. And in order to give it for any needs of the body (energy supply, construction of cell membranes, hormones, etc.), the fat cell must split this triglyceride into fatty acids and glycerol. The process is called lipolysis. Fatty acids and glycerol are released from the fat cell into the blood and transported to the sites of use.

The signal to start lipolysis and share stored fats the fat cell receives from hormones. Recall that hormones are biologically active substances with the help of which the body controls the work of its cells. They are secreted by special organs - glands - in the blood, with which they travel throughout the body. Swimming past the cell in which they are supposed to intervene, the hormone, like a key that enters a keyhole, comes into contact with the receptor and gives the cell the right command. In our example, a command to break down fat.



The Internet is full of such nonsense. Unfortunately, many people are mistaken and believe such charlatans.

Now it should become clear that it is impossible to delay the hormones circulating in the bloodstream in any particular place, for example, on the stomach or on the hips. They will contact and give commands to all fat cells of the body at once.

Hormones and fats

In different situations, hormones are different. When our body prepares for the load (fight or flight), it is adrenaline. When we are hungry and have low blood sugar, glucagon. When very, very hungry, and even endure heavy physical or psycho-emotional stress – cortisol. At night, for the energy supply of building processes - growth hormone (somatotropin). And so on. This ability to command the breakdown of fat is called lipolytic ability.

Although hormones with lipolytic abilities move throughout the body, fat in different places will go unevenly. This will depend on the blood supply to the tissues (their capillaryization) and on the number and activity of cellular receptors.

Fatty tissue in places provided by evolution for storing fat (hips, buttocks, abdomen), will store it more actively, and part more slowly. In places where the body is not very comfortable to store and carry fat, fat will be less stored, and it will be broken down faster.

The breakdown of fat is not yet weight lossIt's a very important thing. The breakdown of fat (lipolysis) is not weight loss. It’s just that fat from the fat cell has moved into the bloodstream and floats there. To get rid of it, you need to burn it. In other words, use it as fuel for any purpose. For example, for muscle work. If fat remains unused as fuel, it floats through the blood and is sucked back into the fat cells, at best. At worst, it will create cholesterol plaques in the cells of the vessel walls.



Bath, massage and fatIn addition, do not forget that the parting of a fat cell with fat stores is a chemical reaction of the breakdown of triglycerides. Fat can not be “shattered”, “shake”, “melted” or “squeezed” from the fat cell. All physiotherapy procedures - massage, bath and others - in connection with the purpose of losing weight, solve one single task - to activate blood flow in fat tissues, improve microcirculation. The more active the blood supply, the more lipolytic hormones will reach the fat cells.

It helps, but it only improves transportation. Dozens of roads can be laid to warehouses with coal reserves, but if this coal is not used as fuel, it will remain in storage.
