Experts do not recommend washing chicken under the tap

British experts insist that people should stop washing chickens under the tap, as this could lead to the spread of potentially dangerous bacteria throughout the kitchen.

According to experts, while rinsing a purchased chicken, splashing water, flying on kitchen surfaces, carry Campylobacter bacteria. These microorganisms are responsible for a large number of food poisoning. According to research, 44% of cooks wash chicken before cooking. However, experts say that this practice increases the risk of infection with Campylobacter people in contact with them. Experts are confident that all bacteria present on the chicken will be destroyed during heat treatment, during cooking.

The most common symptoms of the disease: abdominal pain, severe diarrhea and vomiting. Campylobacter can have more serious consequences, especially for children and adults over 60. They are most at risk of developing food poisoning due to a weak immune system. Symptoms of food poisoning caused by Campylobacter can occur between two and five days after coming into contact with germs. In addition to chicken, such microbes can be found in untreated water, unpasteurized milk, poorly prepared chicken liver and liver paste.
