Scientists believe that fruits and vegetables make people happier

Scientists from the British University of Warwick and the University of Queensland in Australia, published in the journal American Journal of Public Health of the joint research devoted to the influence of diet on the mental state of a person. The study involved 12,500 volunteers, who held a certain diet for six years and were food diaries. The researchers found that increasing daily servings of fruits and vegetables leads to higher levels of happiness, with this effect is quite fast - an average of two years after the change of diet. According to Science Alert, researchers took into account other factors that could affect the level of satisfaction with their lives in the observed group, such as changes in the level of income or place of residence.

For best results, the scientists recommend eating at least eight vegetables or fruit per day: in their opinion, such a change in the diet will make much happier person - in this study, compared with a situation where unemployed people successfully employed. Scientists do not yet know exactly how fruits and vegetables affect the psychological state of man: they are talking about a possible link between optimism and the amount of carotenoids in the blood, but emphasize that this matter be explored in greater depth

. According to the scientists, their findings may help motivate people to stick to a healthy and balanced diet: as noted by the authors of the study, other effects of regular consumption of fruits and vegetables (eg, decreased likelihood of developing cancer) appear not so fast and obvious as improved mood and sense of happiness.
