The story about a marathon runner and apple (2 photos)

Cuban poor Felix Carvajal wrote himself into the history of the Summer Olympics of 1904, held in St. Louis (Missouri).

Cuban, wanting to go to America to participate in the marathon, raising money, begging. Needless to say, that he succeeded. Arriving in New Orleans, he immediately spent all the money on women and other entertainment, so rest of the way to St. Louis in 1100, he had to overcome kilometers on foot. At the starting line Cuban faced with another problem: the rules of competition for its length sleeves and pants was inappropriate, but did not lose a marathon runner and cut them (pictured before the start of our hero at number three).

In that race, Felix led (remember that the marathon distance of 42 km 195 m), until he saw an apple hanging from a tree. Since the Cuban poor man did not eat for about forty hours, from what felt unbearable pain, he stopped and had a snack. Despite the fact that due to the stop marathon came in fourth, Felix Carvajal was the real hero of the Olympic Games in 1904.
