Amazing potato pies without a gram of flour, hostess Oksana reveals cooking process

It is one thing to knead dough for cakes with potatoes. And quite another – to prepare from two types of potatoes dough for cakes, and even without flour. It's kind of fantastic for us. And for the residents of Boykivshchyna, which is on the slopes of the Ukrainian Carpathians, is a festive dish that has long been prepared after harvest.

Dough for cakes with potatoes Ingredients for dough
  • 1.5-2 kg of small potatoes
  • 1 egg
  • 2-3 tbsp starch
  • salt


Filling ingredients
  • 700-800g cottage cheese
  • salt
  • peppery


Frying ingredients
  • 3 bulbs
  • 200g lard
  • vegetable-oil
  • sour cream


Preparation
  1. Boil half of the specified amount of potatoes in uniforms. So it will remain more starch, which means it will be easier to knead the dough.


  2. Peel and pass boiled potatoes through the meat grinder.
  3. The other part of the potatoes is soaked raw. Then squeeze the juice out of it, but don't pour it out, we'll need it.
  4. Bring the water in a large pan to a boil. Add potato juice to it.
  5. Mix in a bowl two types of grated potatoes (raw and boiled).


  6. Add an egg and a couple of spoons of starch. Sprinkle and pepper. Mix your hands thoroughly.


  7. Grind the cottage cheese with a fork so that there are no large pieces. If necessary, salty.
  8. Roll a potato dough ball. Then squeeze him into a thick pancake.
  9. Put a spoonful of cottage cheese in the center of the pancake. Then wrap the filling in potato dough. It's kind of like a potato dumpling. But the dough is made of potatoes and thicker, so it looks like cakes.



    According to the hostess, she cooks such pies with cottage cheese, mushrooms and even apples. Only apples, unlike others, roast or bake in the oven.

  10. Carefully put the cakes in a pot of water. Wait until they surface, then cook for a couple more minutes.
