Why Russians are not very liked in southern Italy and are biased
The difficulty of moving abroad is a very relevant topic in our time. We immigrants often have to break stereotypes and fight for our place in the sun where we are not expected. Well, today we're with the editorial board. "Site" We'll tell you which one Russianism It is in the south of Italy and that is why.
I moved to Italy five years ago from Belarus. I just want to say that this decision was not easy for me. The difficulties I faced in the process of moving were much greater than I could have imagined. At first, I wanted to drop everything and go home, because everything is much easier in my home country. One of the most painful topics for me was biasWhich I want to talk about in detail.
© Freepik The first thing I want to convey to readers is that we are not welcome in Europe at all. No one's waiting.. This is a bitter truth that I have already accepted. It’s no surprise that we have Italian jobs. In Italy, the unemployment rate is quite high. Many Russian women come to Italy to get married. That is, they not only take away free jobs, but also free men.
Think for yourself, why would they be happy to come here? Abroad we will always stand out from the crowd. We will always be strangers.. For anyone who plans to immigrate to another country, I want to give you a message: be ready to fight. For good work and housing, obtaining documents, normal attitude of others. More than once you will hear unpleasant statements. It won't be easy.
© Freepik Reasons for Prejudice So why are we disliked in sunny Italy? I'll tell you right away. Italians are not very friendly to visitors.Unless they're tourists. Even an Italian who has moved from a nearby town can be considered a stranger. Of course, those who visited Italy as a guest, it may seem that the local people are very friendly. But trust me, it's different with immigrants.
I am not saying that all Italians are hostile to us. Everyone has their own opinions and stereotypes about Russians. It all depends on the individual. and his knowledge, his personal experience. I managed to make friends with some locals, earn their respect. Unfortunately, for most of us, we are third world people.
© Freepik Italians do not understand the CIS countries Many Italians hardly distinguish the CIS countries, calling everyone indiscriminately “Russian”. When I say that I came from Belarus, I am almost always asked where it is. And when I show photos and specify that more than 2 million people live in Minsk and most have higher education, I see on their faces a sincere surprise. Italians know much more about the United States and other European countries. And There is almost no interest in us.. It's a shame that they think they're superior to us even though they don't know the basics.
I'm going to have a pair of slippers, but I'll give you my opinion: It is also our fault in this regard.. Where does the majority of Italians get information about Russians? That's right, from watching tourists. And guests from the CIS often behave very uncultured, and I myself am ashamed of my “own”. Especially for girls who behave too defiantly and provoke indecent associations.
© Freepik We do not value ourselves And now I will tell you about another reason that greatly affects the Russianism. We do not love or appreciate what is ours. Perhaps these are remnants of those times when people from the USSR aspired to everything abroad. But even now, my Italian husband often asks why we adopt so much from other nations. We are more inclined to buy Italian equipment or, say, products than something domestic. Many people seek citizenship of another country.
I explain, of course, that we are just very versatile people, open to the world. Allegedly, we are interested in everything and thus expand our horizons. But somewhere deep down, I'm hurt. How can we expect foreigners to treat us well? We don’t love and respect ourselves.?
© Freepik I think I'll summarize. If someone is going to work in Italy, then one should not hope that the integration process will be simple. There are many obstacles to a good life. I sincerely hope that all negative stereotypes associated with Russians will be a thing of the past. In the meantime, dear compatriots, I urge you to prove by your example that the Russians deserve respect. Share your stories and thoughts on this topic in the comments!
