Many people believe that the moon affects human behavior, especially for sleep. In fact, many complain of anxiety during a full moon. Scientists decided to study more this phenomenon and found that the moon phase does not affect him.
Previous studies have shown an Association between sleep and lunar cycles. However, they showed different results, and in addition, effects on sleep have rarely supported by objective data, such as electroencephalogram sleep. Some studies have shown that women are more sensitive to the phases of the moon, while others that men. That's why scientists decided to examine in more detail this question to get a more objective and convincing data.
"To overcome the obvious limitations of retrospective analysis, it is necessary to conduct carefully controlled studies specifically designed to determine the effect of lunar cycles on sleep in large samples," says one of the researchers Martin Dressler (Martin Dresler).
The researchers analyzed data on sleep 1265 volunteers for 2097 nights. This allowed them to obtain General information about how lunar cycles can influence sleep. In the end, they found no correlation between lunar cycles and sleep.
"After studying this array of data, scientists have found similarities with previous research. We have not found statistical correlation between human sleep and the lunar phases," says Dresler.
After analyzing the results of other experiments, the total length of which is 20,000 nights of sleep, the researchers came to the conclusion that the view that human sleep influenced by moon phases, formed due to the fact that opposite results are simply not published.
The results of this study showed that the moon phase does not affect sleep. However, it is possible further investigations are necessary to definitively confirm this fact. However, this study does not say that there is no reason to assume that the relationship between moon phases and sleep there.
