The two-minute rule — unique technique for the realization

A businessman, weightlifter and photographer-traveler James Clear talks about a simple strategy that will help to overcome procrastination. Goal: start doing things you have long had to make, and implement plans that it is high time at least to start.

The two-minute rule overcomes procrastination and laziness. And lets make this really easy.

Most of the cases are long delayed, is actually not that hard to do, says James Clear. Because you have the talent and skills to perform them, you just don't begin to do it for one reason or another.

THE TWO-MINUTE RULE CONSISTS OF TWO PARTS:

Part 1: if it takes less than two minutes, do it now.

It's amazing how many pending cases actually could be done in just a all the minutes and even less. For example, to wash the dishes immediately after eating, throw the Laundry in the washing machine, take out the trash, clean up, send emails and so on. If the task takes less than two minutes, follow this rule: do it right now.

Part 2: when you start a new habit, this should start within two minutes.

May all your goals be achieved in less than two minutes? Of course not. But every goal can be started in 2 minutes or less.

It may seem that this strategy is too small for the great purpose of life, but it's not. This approach works for any purpose, and the reason is physics. As sir Isaac Newton, and objects at rest remain at rest and objects in motion remain in motion. This is just as true for humans as for falling apples. 2-minute rule works for small and large goals because of the inertia of life. Once you start to do something, it is easier to continue to do so.

The rule is associated with the idea that good things happen, it is necessary to start work.

Want to become a good writer? Just write one sentence (2-minute rule), and gradually you will be able to write for hours.

Want to switch to a healthy diet? Just eat one fruit (2-minute rule), and you'll find yourself inspired to make a healthy salad.

Want to make reading a habit? Just read the first page of a new book (2-minute rule). You will not notice how will fly the first three chapters.

Want to run three times a week? Just wear sneakers every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and leave the house (2-minute rule), and so you put the beginning of the run, instead of having to eat another batch of popcorn.

The two-minute rule is not focused on results but rather on the process which leads to the result. The focus is on the start. After all, the most important part of any new habit is the beginning, not only the first time, but every time so measures have to be consistent.

Try it now

Of course, it is difficult to argue that this rule will work in every case. But, and this is for sure, it will never work if you don't try. The problem with most articles that we read (and podcasts and videos), is that we only consumed information, but rarely go to practice. This information you can begin to use right now. So, what of the fact that you need a long time to do, you can do right now in two minutes? published
