Military expert told whether to close the windows during shelling

Since February 24, the reality we live in has changed. We used to talk about what to do in the apartment to make it stylish. But after the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, we began to worry about very different issues. Now we are concerned about what needs to be done to secure the home. For example, many people are concerned about whether windows should be closed during shelling and whether this makes any difference.

Editorial "Site" I listened to military expert Oleg Zhdanov and is ready to answer this question.

Now it is difficult to predict when the shelling of your city will begin. Only recently, in broad daylight, Russian missiles flew into Vinnytsia, far from the front line. So wherever you are in Ukraine, please do not ignore the reports of the air alert.

Facebook / Olga Miroshnichenko When there is shelling, from explosions there is a shock wave of unimaginable force. She destroys everything in her path. If the building is near the epicenter of the explosion, even the walls can be affected. First of all, of course, the windows come out. People are wondering if they can be protected. Let’s figure out what to do: open or close the windows.

This question was answered by military expert Oleg Zhdanov. He said it made a huge difference whether the windows were open or closed at the time of the explosion. If the windows are closed, then the excessive pressure of the shock wave just blows these windows away like an obstacle in its path. They are not designed for such strikes, so they immediately fly out. Especially if these are old-style windows with thin glass.

If the windows are open wide and the pressure from the wave falls exclusively on the end of the frame, the glass will remain intact. But keep in mind that this shock wave will fly into the apartment. Destroy everything that stands on the windowsill and on the table, glass in the sidewalks and chandeliers may also suffer. So decide for yourself whether to close the windows.

Of course, losing windows on the eve of winter is unpleasant, but they can be replaced. The most important thing is to take care of your safety, so as not to be injured by shrapnel. For this, it is best to seal the windows with tape. Then, even if they crack, the glass will remain on the scotch and will not spread throughout the apartment.

Earlier we talked about how to secure a home during war and what to do to save yourself. Once again, please do not ignore the air alert. Take care of yourself and your loved ones. Everyone's life matters. And remember, we will win, whatever it is!
