What makes 79-year-old Paul McCartney perform with the Ukrainian flag

Millions of people around the world support Ukraine, which is defending itself on its territory. Celebrities of all stripes also do not consider it possible to stand aside. They transfer money, organize charity events, support Ukrainians in word and deed.

79-year-old legendary musician Paul McCartney in late February announced his unequivocal support. He also recalled coming to the Ukrainian capital. 14 June 2008 McCartney In Kiev gathered 350 thousand grateful spectators.

And the broadcast on large screens in major cities of Ukraine then watched several hundred thousand people. And on TV that concert live on the “New channel” saw 13.5 million viewers. Needless to say, it was a landmark event for the whole country.

Now one of the founders of The Beatles and a 16-time Grammy winner recalls with sadness the quiet time when he first came to Ukraine to perform in the capital's Independence Square. He regularly raises the blue and yellow flag at his concerts around the world.

Although the artist turns 80 years old on June 18, he continues to lead an active creative life. During a recent large-scale world tour, Paul McCartney took to the stage during a performance in Boston carrying the Ukrainian flag.

And in such a difficult time, such support cannot be overestimated. This is not only a beautiful gesture, but also a reminder to many viewers of the war in Europe. It is a reminder of the active fighting that every day takes hundreds of lives and sows destruction in those Ukrainian cities and villages, where a couple of months ago it was quiet and calm.

The most famous artists use their popularity to provide at least some help. For example, the leader of the Italian rock band Maneskin Damiano David reminded his audience from the stage that bombs are falling on peaceful Ukrainian cities. He also called on everyone not to despair, because the power that was taken from the people will surely return to the people.

The legendary rock band Pink Floyd also condemned the actions of the authorities of Russia and Belarus. For the first time in 28 years, the band gathered to release a new song together with Ukrainian musician Andrei Khlyvnyuk. Moreover, all profits from the new track are sent to humanitarian aid to Ukrainians.

Queen, Metallica, Rammstein and many others not only openly sided with Ukraine, but also began to raise money for the needs of the warring country. Thiel Lindemann, for example, personally worked at the Berlin train station, where he helped Ukrainian refugees.
