Ernst Moreau is a doctor who has saved thousands of children’s lives with the help of carrot soup.
Now children's stomach problems do not shock parents, because there are a thousand and one ways to cure them. But earlier, even small disorders could be fatal. And so it was for a very long time, until one pediatrician came up with a simple and brilliant idea at the same time.
Editorial "Site" I would like to share with you the wonderful story of the doctor who committed medical discovery and saved thousands of small lives.
It is scary to even think about it, but only a century and a half ago, the average life expectancy of a person was half what it is now. This does not mean that our ancestors lived only up to 35-40 years. Most of all, this indicator was influenced by the child indicator. For the child, the problem was not only to appear in this world, but also to live to adulthood. But soon there was someone who could change everything.
This truly great man was born more than a hundred years ago in the capital of modern Slovenia, then it was just a small town of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Ernst Moreau studied in Graz, Austria, where he received his doctorate in medicine. In 1906 he received a specialization in pediatrics in Munich, and two years later became a professor at the University of Heidelberg.
During his practice, Moro made many important discoveries. Thanks to him, it became possible to diagnose cerebral palsy. Moro’s method is that if you make a loud sound near the child’s head, he must spread the handles, and then squeeze them. The absence of such a reflex is a sign of damage or oppression of the nervous system.
It was Moro who discovered lactobacilli and their benefits for the human body. He was the first to sterilize baby bottles and invented a formula for artificial feeding. Think about it, everybody knows it now, everybody uses it, and he was a pioneer in pediatrics.
In 1908, Moreau made his most important discovery, which could not be explained until a century later. At that time, the figure was 25-30%. That is, out of 100 children, about 25 did not live even to a year. The main reason is banal diarrhea. Moreau came up with a simple recipe, thanks to which this figure was halved – ordinary carrot soup.
The recipe is simple: you need to take a pound of carrots and make it puree, after pouring a liter of water, salt and evaporate to a total volume of one liter. Here's the whole recipe that heals. Baby diarrhea.
The miraculous power of this soup was only explained in 2002. Then it became clear that the acidic oligosaccharides contained in the soup prevent bacteria from attaching to the mucous membrane. Another study found that this soup treats even diarrhea that is resistant to antibiotics.
Carrots are a real storehouse of useful substances. It is rich in vitamins A, C, E, D, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and carotene. Scientists have found that regular consumption of carrots helps prevent a variety of ailments. It also contains a lot of fiber, so it removes toxins and toxins from the intestines. So this soup does not lose its relevance even now.
Most striking is the fact that for all his discoveries, Ernst Moreau lived a modest life and did not receive a single award. He worked and did what he loved until he was 74 years old and probably saved many more lives. All this is enough to remember him and be grateful to this wonderful man.
