"Pretend I'm a thief and want to steal gasoline..."

Ten million four hundred sixty six thousand six hundred forty three

I went once on a trip to remote German Dresden. Somewhere in the suburbs and decided to stop at a gas station, and at the same time and learn how this simple process takes place in a foreign land.

As far as I could understand, the system consisted of the following: the machine is a row of buttons with the following labels as "10 Euro", "EUR 20", "full tank". To pour the right amount of gasoline into the tank, just press the corresponding button — it's simple and logical.

Until I studied this simple technology, stood beside me, a local driver and went to pay for the fuel. Then I decided to ask in his broken German:

— Look, what if I just refuel and leave, that is not going to pay for petrol?

German is a little taken aback by this unexpected question on the forehead and asked:

— I mean, I will not pay???

— Well, pretend I'm a thief and want to steal gasoline. You know?

The German thought. After half a minute he noticeably perked up and replied:

— So then the camera should be! If you don't pay, your car will lock and the police arrest you.

— Well, if the room is dirty?

German has changed dramatically in the face. It is obvious that the poor man did not expect such a turn, so all he could squeeze out of himself was confused:

— ...Which means the room is dirty?!
