Psychologists advise-do not smile if you are sad
A new study shows that trying to smile when people are really miserable, he's hurting himself.
Professor Anirban Mukhopadhyay of Hong Kong University conducted a series of experiments and argues: it is not necessary to fake a smile. If the person tries to smile, his brain starts to associate it with sadness, not joy. And next time, when a person smiles, it can bring back bad memories instead of good mood.
"If a person is feeling bad and mimics the smile, it can backfire and make him feel worse. Smile as if to remind them that they were not happy".
In a series of experiments, the scientists asked the people how often they smiled, how they are satisfied with life. Then participants were shown funny pictures and repeated the survey. Also, people are asked to perform exercises for the face. The results showed that fake smile will not cheer the man, it is only a mask.
The Professor is convinced: "the Smile itself does not increase happiness or well-being". It will bring such a result, if one will do it when he's really happy and cheerful.
