People with diabetes can live longer than healthy

Recent large-scale study involving more than 180 thousand people, showed that patients receiving the drugs from diabetes can live longer, compared with people without signs of the disease.

The researchers compared the survival of patients with diabetes receiving metmorfin and a sulfonylurea. The obtained results suggest that Metformin, used to control glucose and has anti-cancer properties, can provide prophylactic benefits to people without diabetes.

Professor Craig Kerry (Craig Currie) from Cardiff University says, "Patients treated with Metformin had a small but statistically significant increase in survival, compared with adiabatically, while patients treated with a sulfonylurea, there was a steady decline in survival. This is true even without a crafty statistical manipulation."

The doctor continued: "Surprisingly, the results show that the cheap and widely used drug can have a beneficial impact not only on patients with diabetes but also people who do not have it and, interestingly, patients with type 1 diabetes".
