Inflatable concrete house

Binishell ( «Binishell») - is a domed building made of concrete, which is constructed without seams and inter-panel joints. Unusual binishella technology was developed back in the seventies, but the general public has recently introduced its architect Nicolo Bini. His father built the first domed building on this technology as early as 1964. The building, which stands in the foothills of Mount Etna, in half a century survived earthquakes, hurricanes and even a volcanic eruption.

Nicolo Bini believes that a special resistance to natural disasters is provided by aerodynamic shape of the building. According to the architect, binishell may become low shelter for people who lost their homes due to natural disasters.

Binishell built in several stages: first, on the foundation established an inflatable balloon of a solid membrane, and on top - a wooden formwork with steel reinforcement. Then the design is filled with a concrete mixture with special additives. After that, the ball is inflated with powerful pumps, and enveloping concrete bowl is gradually taking the shape of a dome. After the concrete has hardened, the balloon is deflated and used for the next construction.

Each house costs about 3, 5 thousand dollars. Architect also offers equipped with sloping roofs green roof to create a favorable microclimate indoors.
