Who are "highly sensitive people" and how they differ from introverts

Very impressionable rebyataHIghly sensitive people or HSP - we call them highly sensitive people or VCHL - people who intensively others react to the world around us. Both positive and negative information such people are treated more carefully, so that they can overwhelm and overload external stimuli - when there are too many or too intense. These people pay much attention to all the sensations: taste, touch, sounds and smells. They are especially sensitive to the emotions, his own and others. The press calls them new introverts: especially for highly sensitive people write a lot in recent years, although given the definition of the phenomenon in the mid 90s.

Who first wrote about them? For the first time people highly identified psychologist Eileen N. Aron in his book The Highly Sensitive Person, which was released in 1996. Aron lived in San Francisco with her husband, Arthur began studying VCHL in 1991. Aron describes VCHL like those who have "increased sensitivity to stimulation," and who is "more aware of the details and nuances and process information more deeply reflective rest." Aron thought that Carl Jung, Emily Dickinson, and Rainer Maria Rilke were highly sensitive people and they all "are usually poets, writers, teachers, doctors, scientists and philosophers." It is estimated that 20% of the population - people are highly sensitive.

Why talking about them now? Term and the book is not that Aaron lay in oblivion, no - other researchers wrote VCHL, and out of them scientific articles, but in recent years the media have paid special attention to them. Perhaps because of the fashion for introversion, which is much talk today. Anyway, highly sensitive people write about everything: Huffington Post released a text on how highly sensitive people otherwise interact with the world, The Wall Street Journal wrote about the phenomenon, even Scientific American were talking about Aaron and her ideas. In the scientific world, too, interest in them increased in May in Brussels hosted the first conference devoted to high sensitivity. On the Phenomenon VCHL out a documentary called Sensitive, where, for example, co-starred singer Alanis Morissette, which considers itself a highly sensitive person.

Why allocate highly sensitive people, if there are already introverts? Because it psmhologicheskaya - and neurobiological - a category of people for very different indicators. Aaron brought a scale of sensitivity of 27 points to allocate VCHL; and, as in the case of the introvert, it is not just the binary system, you are not just a highly sensitive person, or not, there is a gradation. If introverts are primarily determined by their relationships with other people, the highly sensitive people in general are determined by the relationship to the world. However, as introverts VCHL may enjoy solitude to give your brain a rest from stimulation. For example, if you often cry in a movie or annoy you strong smells, or if you penetrate the emotions of other people in the most unexpected moments. And it is important to study: because if you understand what you are - a highly sensitive person, you can better organize your life, for example, try to work in a quiet and peaceful place.
