The global trend of people becoming more carnivorous

While the West flirting with vegetarianism, East leans on myaso

Throughout the world, people are eating more and more meat. According to scientists, the transition to a more carnivorous diet can be traced due to the rapid economic growth of China and India. French researchers found a significant link between the World Bank Development Indicators and nutrition of people in different countries. Their aim was to clarify the relationship between socio-economic, environmental, medical and sanitary conditions and a change in diet.

Despite the fact that people are eating more meat, we are unlikely to go on a diet full of meat. Researchers have identified what people eat in different countries, for the calculation of the trophic level of the person and of our place in the food chain.

According to Sylvain Bonomo (Sylvain Bonhommeau) from the Institute of France for Exploitation of the Sea, in 2009, the average trophic level of humanity was 2, 21 - we are closer to herbivores than to carnivores, so that is not a top link in the food chain . However, according to research, the trophic level with the consumption of meat over the last 100 years has increased by 3%, or 0, 06 units.

In India and China, people traditionally eat mostly rice-based dishes, and now, when the country experienced a period of economic growth, the population becomes richer and can afford to eat meat more often - thus, there is a marked increase in their trophic level. But in countries such as Iceland or Mongolia, where people are increasingly eating heavy meat or fish food or dairy products became available to other types of food, so that there is, on the contrary, meat eating a little less than before.

According to Dr. Bonomo if trophic level of humanity will grow a little more, we will have a greater impact on the ecosystem as a whole.
