Aurora in Kronstadt

A couple of weeks ago in the city of St. Petersburg was a milestone - the cruiser Aurora went to his eternal parking. A year ago, I personally, it seemed quite impossible, because I was ready to argue that it stands on a concrete pedestal, and in general - a real body of Aurora long-cut and ducked in the Gulf.

A year has passed and I'm holding my breath, take photos of the cruiser passing under the drawn Palace bridge. The day before yesterday I was able to touch the Aurora, standing in the dock.

In Kronstadt, Aurora does not appear for the first time. Back in 1904 she first came to the island, where she retrofit specialists Obukhov factory. After the revolution, she was back in Kronstadt, where, as I understand it, has stood for many years. With her shooting guns out of it doing a training ship.



War cruiser spent in Oranienbaum, where it left almost no weapons - ten guns were removed from the Aurora and were used in the defense of Leningrad.



After winning the war, the cruiser was sent to Nakhimov Naval School as a training ship. With him were dismantled boilers, screw, many other mechanisms, which will significantly lighten the weight of the ship.



In the early 80s the ship surveyed and it was found that it is not in the very good condition, in need of major repairs. It was then discussed setting cruiser on a concrete pad that apparently gave rise to many rumors that Aurora - has long concrete and does not stay on the water.



Of all the options for restoring repair the cruiser stopped in appearance, in which he was in '17. And in 1984, the Aurora left for repairs, with whom he returned in the usual way.



Look - is still preserved the original cast bronze stem!



What a wonderful, I do not know how to properly called this bend in the underwater part of the nose.



Aurora reached in four hours from St. Petersburg to Kronstadt Marine Plant and stood on a wooden keel blocks in the dock Veleschinskogo.



The dock Aurora is not one, but with a very serious neighbor - the icebreaker Krasin.



The works on the Aurora began almost immediately - examination, shot-blasting, painting.
It's worth it - to touch the stem of the ship.



Around the bow and stern of a ship built wood, which can rise to the level of the waterline.



Interestingly, Krasin wound up in the dock bow first, and Aurora - nose to the caisson gate.



Everyone knew that the Aurora was removed the screw, but the left frame of the rudder. As I understand it, after pumping the water from the dock all surprised that the very well-preserved feather steering. This is particularly surprising because it - wood, teak. Selecting a tick due to the fact that this tree is perfectly resists rot. Look - a metal-covered pen is stratified, and the tree is in decent shape. I assume that the pen will be removed and transferred to any museum.



We tried to walk very carefully, without interfering with the working of the plant.



In general, it's amazing - take the dock, which fits two ships and left the same amount of space. Doc himself - definitely a work of art.



Everything is great. If you look up, you can imagine a hero Spielberg film about Martians fighting tripods. Only then four legs.



Look - what a stunning wall at the dock!



Doc Veleschinskogo fine, but located close - not worse. Here, in this example, it is absolutely wonderful submarine, which I'm not sure that can be spread. But the wall of the dock - you can.



At every step there are amazing historical items.



But despite the tremendous territory of the plant, it is still about the ships. Krasin appeared undeservedly forgotten in this note that we must urgently correct. So - here it is, the icebreaker.



Unlike Aurora, Krasin is native to the screw, and in general - to keep the engine room.



Looking at the bottom of the Krasin know - how difficult it is to go through the ice. These wavy deformation - a consequence of the struggle of metal and ice. Even more striking rivets - you can see that they are all erased during the movement of the ship.



Terrific - two beautiful and so close to the ship.



And if you turn and look the other way - you can enjoy the harbor.
