I noticed a strange rash in my nephew all over my body. Turns out they're contagious mollusc papules!

While picking up my four-year-old nephew from kindergarten, I—an aunt who wasn’t quite experienced in childhood illness—was struck by what I saw on the baby’s skin. The entire neck, back, arms and armpits of the child were strewn with small pimples the size of a begged grain.

To my mute question: “What is this?” the teacher calmly replied: “Go to the dermatologist and find out.” We did not waste time and ran to the nearest clinic for a doctor’s consultation.

Once in the office of the right specialist, the boy became very nervous and was already ready to run away, as long as no aunt touched him and, God forbid, did not give an injection.

But I was radically minded: instantly took the obstinate in his arms and sat in a chair to the doctor. It took a few seconds for an experienced woman to make an accurate diagnosis. mollusc. This disease has nothing to do with live mollusks. Just under a microscope, the inner contents of the pimples remotely resemble the inhabitant of a shell.

Contagious mollusk in children

The doctor reassured me that the disease is not dangerous and does not need special medical treatment. However, if you rub or comb pimples, they spread further along the surface of the skin.

Children are the main risk group, much less often the infection affects adults. You can get contagious mollusc anywhere: on the playground, in the pool, in transport, when using other people's hygiene products or clothing.

Adults most often become infected sexual intercourse. In this case, the rash affects the genitals, abdomen and the inner surface of the thighs.

A characteristic sign of the disease are pimples with a depression in the center. Inside, each pimple contains a viscous waxy substance, sometimes the infection is accompanied by severe itching.

Treatment of contagious mollusk is based on taking all measures to prevent the spread of infection: limiting the patient’s contacts with other people, ironing the infected person’s clothes daily, observing the rules of personal hygiene (it is forbidden to use other people’s towels and washcloths).

In no case should you try to squeeze the contents of pimples! There is a great risk of spreading the infection, getting new foci all over the body. It is better to entrust the removal of papules to the doctor. Often, doctors resort to the help of a laser, liquid nitrogen or chemical solutions.

Bless you and your loved ones! Remember that not every disease is as dangerous as we fear it.
