How to teach a picky mother-in-law with one gesture
As you know, someone else’s family is dark, and sometimes it is very difficult to figure out who is right and who is guilty. This is our case today, the essence of which is mother-in-lawIt is not as simple as it may seem at first glance.
This episode from the life of our reader took place not so long ago, but, as we think, deserves some attention. So read, draw some conclusions for yourself and, if you wish, share your thoughts with us. We'll be very interested!
My husband, a thirty-year-old IT worker, works late and, in principle, provides us with everything we need. No, he's not one of those movie characters who makes millions of dollars a year and hacks into secret service bases for fun. A normal job that provides for our family.
We do not have children because we are not ready to have them. Not mentally prepared. But it's okay. We save money for the purchase of a spacious house, and while huddled in a cozy two-room apartment near the center. This is convenient, because to work both get about half an hour, if no traffic jams, of course.
I work as a junior teacher. I don’t think I make much money in my profession, but I think it depends on the school. In my case, this is a gymnasium, so there is enough work, as well as wages. At least not yet.
My mother-in-law loves her children very much. Julia, my husband’s sister, is often at home and we are friends. Julia has her own family: husband and three children. She often jokes, they say, when there are children, contact me, I'll help you figure out what and how. The mother-in-law usually smiles and nods approvingly when he hears this.
Some time ago, Sasha, my husband, got promoted at work. Of course, on this occasion we invited relatives to visit. Same week, just closer to the weekend, on Friday night.
Since I had a short working day on Thursday, I decided to prepare and bake a cake. Everyone likes Napoleon, and the choice fell on him. The recipe was not the easiest: a sea of crusts and a complex cream. But I did. After a few hours in the kitchen, the cake was sent to the fridge for the cream to soak up the whole treat.
On Friday evening everyone came to visit: mother-in-law, Julia with her husband and children. And it turned out that Julia came not with empty hands, but with a cake. Napoleon! She bought it at a convenience store around the corner, for tea. The evening passed quickly, everyone was happy and praised Sasha, how good he was and how far he would go. Programmers are needed today.
In order not to offend anyone, it was decided to put both cakes on the table, especially since there were enough people. Of course, the desserts were very different visually and I don’t want to exaggerate, but my cake was on top: nothing burned, the cream was amazing, and I tried my best with the decorations. The shopping cake was... ordinary.
But how did Yulin praise the cake mother-in-law! And his cream tastes better. And the cakes are juicier. Even a piece was cut off as it should. And most importantly, it was all about comparison. Mine, so you can see it's made on my knee a couple of hours before the guests arrive. And the purchase one is it! In short, I'm sick of it.
Somehow I got up from the table and silently threw my cake in the trash. And there was more than half of it, exactly. Well, I couldn't take it anymore. She said, “Why is it so bad?” and she threw it away. I went to another room and started crying, I don’t know why.
Obviously, the evening was ruined and the relatives left after a while. My husband supported me. Says you don't have to turn your nose, because you came to visit. As for the mother-in-law, now she's just on the phone, she's not coming. So is Yulin's family. I was worried at first, but now somehow it's gone. Got used to it.
I don't know if I'm wrong or if my mother-in-law's attitude is a little wrong, but it is. I am not going to apologize to anyone, let everything remain as it is. But I decided to write to you, maybe you will give some advice.
