Railway giant Alstom enters the market of electric buses with innovative Aptis

The large engineering company Alstom, which has offices in many countries around the world, including in Russia and Kazakhstan, which supplies their electric motors, trains and trams, together with its subsidiary company NTL has unveiled a prototype electric bus Aptis factory in Duppigheim NTL in the Eastern part of France.

At the presentation the representative of Alstom announced that it is the vehicle structurally has the advantage of the tram, are placed on the wheel.

The bus is 12 m long and 2 550 mm wide with a capacity of 95 passengers includes two or three double doors for fast embarkation and disembarkation. The floor being as close to the ground, as modern trams, which facilitates boarding and disembarkation of passengers and the transportation of people in wheelchairs, for which by the way, specially there are two places.

All four wheels swivel, which means that the machine takes up less space to turn and more maneuverable in crowded conditions of cities than a bus. The company has transferred its expertise in railway transport on the road — as a result, people feel like in a train, the body of the bus is symmetrical relative to the front and the back. And the passenger has the illusion that the vehicle can be driven in one direction or the other. The weight distribution was done in such a way that there was no need, in the gable of the rear wheels.Aptis has an electric motor with a capacity of 180 kW and a maximum speed of 70 km / h Onboard batteries can be recharged for a full day (200 kms on a single charge) in the fleet, which takes about 6 hours, or to charge the bus at the end of the route with the help of a pantograph or SRS ground equipment static charging Alstom, which is a 5 min.

Alstom says that the life cycle of the vehicle is 20 years, which is 30-40% more than conventional bus.

"Aptis, we complete our electric mobility and is now able to offer cities a full range of solutions," - said General Director of Alstom, Henri Poupart-Lafarge.
The Paris region, together with STIF ( the body that oversees the public transport network in Paris) will launch tests of two prototypes in the second half of this year in cooperation with the municipal transport operator RATP on lines 21 (Gare Saint-Lazare-Porte de Gentilly) and 147 (Eglise de Pantin-Sevran Avenue Ronsard).. Alstom notes that STIF seeks to replace 80% of its bus fleet in the next 10 years, making them a potential customer for Aptis. Other markets will include primarily the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Spain. published
