Electricity from salt water: how to use the energy of the waves

The energy of the waves can be a major energy source of the future. In the race to find sustainable, clean energy resource, electricity from salt water is a strong contender.

The use of wave energy has been practiced for a long time. However, most power plants used for the extraction of tidal energy, located along ocean coast lines, where the marine ecosystem is particularly fragile.

Tidal power plants are usually located at the mouths of rivers where the habitats of fish and other ecosystems of marine life. These facilities are also expensive, so the world built very few power plants.

In recent years, more and more companies are developing technologies to capture wave energy in the waters located at a considerable distance from the shoreline. These innovative inventions can ever begin to supply clean and renewable energy.

There are several countries that develop this sector and some of them have a very promising invention that is able to generate energy from the sea. This company is Ocean Power Technologies, which is located in Jersey. They launched the project, which is the first American commercial wave power plant .

Wave power generates energy buoy-a float moves up and down according to the natural movements of the waves. Then the vertical motion is converted into circular motion with the help of the plunger. Then in a circular motion drives the electric generator to produce electricity.

There are many other companies that have developed similar mechanisms and continue to develop new ways of gathering energy from the sea.

In an interview with the BBC , Stuart Herbert, commercial Director, Wave Hub LTD , said that the technology of producing electricity from salt water is not far off, but it is unlikely that this technology will be able to supply whole world with electricity. An estimated 15% to 20% of the energy needs of the UK can be satisfied by the electricity produced by this technology.published
