Defense temple in Chesnyky

In the village of Chesnyky home to 777 residents. Though the village is small, but the temple of this type you will not find neither in Ukraine nor in the whole world. The Church is really a ripe old age — it comes from the XIV century. Not many Western churches can boast of such an age.





However, anyone who has seen the Church a few years ago, will be disappointed: after the last "reconstruction" of the temple lost a lot and looks so authentic, just like before: the old shingles were replaced with metal, an old rough wall poshtukatureny and whitewashed buttresses — cleaned. The most attractive in the construction of massive buttresses, which give the Church the appearance of the temple-knight. Thick stone walls, embrasures and the shaft around the Church has saved residents Chesnokov from enemies. Thus, during the Tatar attacks in 1550 the Church-fortress saved the lives of his parishioners. Folk legends say that in 1648 the temple was visited by Bogdan Khmelnitsky.The walls of the temple sculpture of the nineteenth century in a rickety sorrow woman. To have survived the names of the priests who at various times ruled the service in the temple. The last abbots of the temple was Advisor to the Metropolitan Consistory Peter Nesvitski and Nikolai Lubinecki, whose son, Roman, became a famous Opera singer.
