Monastyrok - wonder-temple in the cave

Monastyrok is a small village in Borschevsky district (about 6 thousand inhabitants) on the banks of the Seret.Security tablet tells of the cave temple at Monastyrok, as ancient, founded in the ninth century of our era. Rock temple situated high above Céret (80 meters above its level) in the cave of Pagan that has a natural origin and was formed by weathering of the limestone. The natural entrance to the cave is located deep between the boulders. On top it is covered by a rock overhang. with a large removal with a length of 6 meters. Stone canopy support 3 pillars of rough stone. Today's stone abutments built in the late nineteenth century by Leon Sapieha, instead of the original natural, which are destroyed by time.





The grotto, as usual, the temple is divided into three parts: vestibule, nave and altar. The altar in the same way as in conventional churches facing the East. Natural stone wall of the chancel is initially reminiscent of the iconostasis with the Holy way. Today it is decorated with the image of Jesus "with closed eyes".





The icon represents Christ, who closed his eyes and could not look at the disaster that created people. Saying that before the icon of the Lord gives even the most serious sins. According to legend, Jesus appeared to the monks in the form of light and shadow. The icon that we see today, painted by the monks of paint on top of the miraculous image. It was restored in 2001.





Near the cave we will see the mysterious stone of enormous size. This limestone slab rests on three stone piers, and was probably used as an altar. This is evidenced by the hollowed in it a cross and a small chute from him, which probably served as a Krovostok. Thus, the victims were all brought alive. Even today in the rain water that falls on the stone, dripping from it like blood. The stone altar has not always stood here, in the XVII century it was brought to the rock temple monks.
