Ostrich egg

Ostrich egg – polymorphic human food sizes from 500g up to two pounds, yellowish-pink or dark-green color resulting from the reproductive function ratites flightless birds of the Ostrich family.


Fertilized eggs of ostriches have a high commercial value. The food are not fertilized, table eggs, obtained only from young females, early or late eggs. Freshness of table eggs stored up to 6 months if stored in the refrigerator. Egg white and yolk of broken eggs can be kept for a few days in a sealed container in a cool place and use it for cooking portioned.


The egg shell is very lightweight and durable, shatter it is very difficult, and it impresses with its size. Ostrich eggs are of two colours. Handsome dark ostrich EMU give dark green, almost black eggs, and a squat, white-gray ostrich Nandu — yellowish-pinkish. The color of the eggs depends on the color of the plumage of a bird.


Methods of preparation of dishes from ostrich eggs are virtually indistinguishable from our traditional chicken eggs, except in cooking hard boiled eggs — it needs to cook for 1 — 1.5 hours. The egg can be used in full for cooking just one dish, but you can cook portions, keeping the remains in a sealed container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Ostrich eggs have a relatively strong taste and is best to use it in baking. Ostriches lay eggs in the summer, and eggs are impossible to get at other times of the year.
