Diesel is more dangerous than gasoline
Pair of diesel fuel is significantly more harmful to health than gasoline fumes, according to a study published by the Department of energy and climate change UK. This is an embarrassment for successive governments in 2001 to encourage the transition to diesel by linking the vehicle tax to CO2 emissions.
Automakers, governments and environmental groups have recognized the diesel engines are "green" because of economical fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions. Vehicles consume fuel less efficiently and produce more CO2 emissions, become subject to higher tax on fuel, while with a car with a diesel engine with the lowest CO2 emissions will not be charged the transport tax and the congestion charge. Insurance premiums also depend on the amount of CO2 emissions. In the previous year for the first time the number of cars sold with a diesel engine was approximately equal to the number of sold vehicles with a gasoline engine. Today sales of cars with petrol engine is 15% lower than in 2011.
The UK government recognizes that air pollution at the expense of all sources in the United Kingdom annually becomes one of the causes about 30 000 deaths. But according to the study health problems caused by diesel in pairs, cost the National health service in the UK is 10 times higher than problems caused by vapors of gasoline. Last year, the world health organization stated that the emissions from diesel engines cause cancer and comparable in its consequences with passive Smoking.
Group on pollution noted that in no way not taken into account damage to health, provided the diesel vapors, as CO2 emissions are considered as the sole guide in matters of environmental responsibility.
Last week Simon Birkett, founder of Campaign for clean air in the London-based rights group, accused the government of deliberately exacerbating health problems by subsidizing diesel. "Successive governments have known all about the problems (health) caused by diesel in pairs, but they didn't react and kept silent about it. For a long time they knew that diesel is the main source of pollution in the cities and continued to subsidize it." Air pollution due to all sources (including transportation) calculated by the environmental audit Committee and costs the UK up to £20 000 000 000 per year. "Air quality — pent-killer, but is not under anyone's radar, and the cost is not taken into account by the Treasury. This unintended consequence of ignoring," said Joan Walley, chair of the Committee.
According to experts, partly because of the increase in the number of vehicles with diesel engine London regularly does not fulfill the targets of the EU for air pollution. "Environmental regulations have been ineffective for diesel cars," said Martin Williams, Chairman of the United Nations Convention on long-range transboundary air pollution. "The emission levels of nitrogen oxides, for example, was not significantly reduced over the last 20 years."
The report of the Campaign for clean air in London, to be published in February, will argue that these car companies on air pollution petrol vapors unreliable and actual emissions is probably a lot more. "While most drivers in everyday driving trying to match the official fuel economy, the amount of pollutant emissions in real world driving conditions differ from the proposed (Euro)standard."
According to government estimates, the number of the nitrogen oxide emissions produced by diesel vehicles, over the last 15-20 years remains unchanged, while the amount of emissions generated by vehicles with a gasoline engine optimized to 96%.
The representative of Transport for London, said: "the congestion Charge was introduced to reduce traffic, and no pollution. Its main goal is not the reduction of pollution and congestion."
Major cities in India and other countries increasingly think about the dangers of diesel fumes and are considering imposing higher taxes on vehicles with diesel engine or even ban the use of such vehicles in urban centres.
