Healthy diet patients with COPD
A healthy diet contains many health benefits for patients with respiratory diseases. New research has shown a direct link between the diet of fish, fruit and dairy products and improved lung function in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Studies over several years were conducted in Europe and the United States, where specialists watched over the function of the lungs within 24 hours, after ingestion of bananas, fish, cheese and grapefruit. The researchers found that people who reported recent use of these products showed improvement in lung function, less emphysema, improved SGRQ and a decrease in certain inflammatory markers associated with poor lung function including white blood cells and C-reactive protein. Study author Corinne Hanson: "This study demonstrates a rapid effect of a healthy diet, which can have on impact on lung function in patients with COPD".
