Research shows that blue light affects the appetite
Scientists at the University of Chicago found that by manipulating light you can change the food consumption and metabolism.
During experiments, researchers from Illinois chose 10 healthy men, which chose the same sleep schedule and nutrition. The first days they spent in low light conditions, less than 20 Lux. On the third day, the lighting in the room changed to a blue light (260 Lux) for 3 hours. The participants of the experiment revealed an increase in hunger, decreased drowsiness and increased insulin resistance.
Study co-author ivy Cheung said, "It was very interesting to observe that a single three-hour exposure to blue light in the evening acutely impacted hunger and glucose metabolism. These results are important because they suggest that manipulating environmental light for humans, could represent a new approach to influencing food intake and metabolism".
