Extra sleep will help to lose weight

Researchers at the University of Chicago believe that an extra half hour of sleep reduces the appetite and cravings for unhealthy food.

A study of ten people with overweight showed that those who went to bed earlier or stayed in bed longer showed a 14 percent reduction in their appetite and a 62 percent decrease cravings for salty or sweet snacks. First, scientists analyzed the state of men and women aged with obesity aged from 21 to 40 years old who slept an average of six and a half hours or less. They were questioned about how hungry they were and what products they prefer.

In the second week, they were asked to extend their time in bed from eight to eight and a half hours. The results showed that by increasing their time in bed, up to 90 minutes in volunteers with overweight dramatically decreases appetite, particularly the desire to eat unhealthy snacks. Professor Jim Horne said that more time in bed reduces appetite by directly affecting the brain. "If you sleep longer, you have more REM cycles, which have properties of appetite suppression," he added.
