Stalin's bunker—interesting facts



    

In 1991, when Kuibyshev was renamed to Samara in the center of the city was opened to visitors backup bunker of the commander in chief I. V. Stalin, which for half a century, knew only a few people. The object is located under the building of the Academy of culture and arts, which previously housed the Kuibyshev regional Committee. To the right of the Grand staircase in the lobby of the regional party Committee was inconspicuous door, near which were on duty employee of the NKVD. Behind the door is the upper deck where begins the descent to the bunker, as the Elevator and the wall of the staircase. If necessary, this top floor overlaps the massive steel permogorye, able to withstand loads up to 10 tons per square meter. In the middle of the corridor leading to the emergency exit, the entrance to the main part of the hopper — vertical shaft-refuge, disappearing into the depths of the earth for another 23 meters. It was an exact copy of part of the metro tunnel, dug vertically. The bunker in the background, was built from February to October 1942 the forces of 2900 workers and about 800 technical workers. All were taken subscription about nondisclosure of state secrets, does not have a Statute of limitations. So even living close to the city's residents had no idea what was happening behind the high fence construction.





The soil was taken out by cars at night. Builders almost never left the object, ate in the dining room was built here, and spent the night in a hostel in the courtyard of the regional Committee or in underground facilities. The work was carried out around the clock in two shifts. Less than a year, was excavated 25 million cubic meters of soil, laid 5 thousand cubic meters of concrete.

In the bunker there was an independent system of air regeneration and its own power station. By the way, all this is still in working condition. Bunker and still maintain integrity and are designed for full autonomy for five days. The secret underground is a multi-storey building, equipped with elevators. On the ground floor is a conference room for 115 people. Next is a rest room intended for Stalin. On the upper floors — rooms for security, warehouses, technical support services. The bunker could withstand a direct hit of the biggest bombs of the time.
