A Spanish group of psychologists conducted an unusual experiment that allows you to see and hear the world through the eyes and ears of a person of a different sex, age or skin color. Gender Swap is an experiment and at the same time an artistic performance by the Spanish band BeAnotherLab, which using headsets Oculus Rift, allows two people to actually partially exchange bodies - each of them sees the world through the eyes of the other.



The experiment is carried out using cameras and microphones mounted on headsets, and synchronously sending video and audio streams to glasses and headphones of partners. In fact, a woman sees only what her male partner looks at and hears the words they say, and vice versa.



To perform a performance, the couple agrees to perform certain movements in synchrony, such as raising and lowering their arms at the same time. At the same time, everyone has the illusion that he is in someone else’s body – a woman raises her hand, but at the same time she sees a man’s hand.



Saying a phrase at the same time, the participants of the experiment hear it in someone else’s performance.



Researchers believe that such experiences can be very useful for many people to understand the characteristics of each other, to increase empathy between individuals.
