Success in society or how to become an interesting person

Psychologists have long been trying to figure out why some people attract the attention and sympathy of others, while others, despite their best efforts, remain “invisible”. What is so special about people who are called “interesting”? This article summarizes the conclusions that researchers have been able to draw to date.

So, in most “interesting people,” psychologists have found the following qualities in common:

1. People like to talk about themselves, and those who know how to listen and hear are always lacking. Therefore, in order to become an interesting person, you need to learn to listen carefully to the interlocutor and maintain a conversation on the topic of interest to him.

2. Try to take on at least three interesting stories that can entertain, inform or something to captivate. Stories related to the experiences of specific people are best suited, rather than the merits of your new smartphone, for example.

3. The words we say contain only seven percent of all the information we perceive. Sometimes a story that seems incredibly exciting from the mouth of an “interesting person” turns out to be quite bland and unexpressive if it is written down on paper word for word. Remember: intonation and body language play a much more important role in communication than words.

4. Studies show that in our minds there is often a kind of “emotional transfer” – we begin to perceive as “interesting” those people with whom we experienced some vivid emotions, even if these people are not involved in the occurrence of the experiences that inspired us. So if you want to impress someone, go on a trip with this person, make a joint parachute jump or at least go to the movies for some scary thriller.

5. They regularly go beyond their usual social environment The more people you communicate with, the more interesting you become for others. So try to expand your circle of communication.

6. They are looking for any way to stand out from the crowd, it could be something extravagant in appearance or behavior. People’s attention is always drawn to things that are beyond the ordinary, even if they don’t approve.

7. They are constantly trying any new activities or hobbies Interest is caused by people who themselves live an interesting and diverse life. The more unusual your new hobby is, the more attention you will attract.
