Eaten by mother nuts - the key to the health of the child
If during pregnancy a woman eats nuts, this has a positive effect on the health of the child and reduces the risk of developing allergies.
A survey of 62,000 Danish women found that if they ate peanuts and hazelnuts during pregnancy, their children were less likely to develop allergies and asthma. These findings support the recent repeal of recommendations warning pregnant women against eating nuts to reduce children's allergies. The researchers collected data from a survey of women who gave birth between 1996 and 2002, as well as data from medical follow-up of their children at the age of 18 months and 7 years. Children whose mothers ate peanuts more than once a week were 21 percent less likely to develop asthma at 18 months of age. At the age of seven, this probability was already 34% lower. Maternal consumption of hazelnuts reduced the likelihood of developing asthma by 25% in children aged 18 months, but by the age of seven this difference disappears. Peanuts did not affect the development of nasal allergies, and hazelnuts reduced their likelihood by 20%. According to researchers, if there is no history of food allergies, but there is asthma, it is better not to give up nuts.
