Ayurveda — compatible and incompatible foods



According to Ayurveda, certain food combinations disrupt the normal digestion and upset the balance of the doshas. Wrong combination of food may lead to indigestion, fermentation, putrefaction and gas education. Due to improper combination of food formed the AMA – toxic substance which is the cause of most diseases, including problems with excess weight

Here are some of the General concepts of compatibility of foods according to Ayurvedic wisdom:

  • Avoid milk and milk products with sour fruit, citrus or other acidic food.
  • Avoid to use a large amount of potatoes and other starchy foods. Often potatoes and other starchy food is not digested properly, creating toxins.
  • Avoid to eat melons and grains together. This combination upsets the stomach. Melons digest quickly whereas grains – long. By the way, the melon should be eaten separately from other products.
  • Honey should never be heated. The fact that honey is digested very slowly, and if it is heated, the molecules of honey negalogenizirovannam be the glue that firmly attaches to the mucous membranes and clogs the subtle channels of the walls, creating toxins. Raw honey is nectar processed by heating the honey – poison.
  • Avoid milk along with other protein foods. Proteins have a warming quality and milk cools; thus, they counteract one another, disturb Agni(digestive fire) and create AMA (toxins).
Invalid combinations of products:

milk: cheese, melon, bananas, sour fruits, bread, fish, legumes;

yogurt: milk, cantaloupe, bananas, sour fruits, hot beverages (including coffee and tea), cheese, starchy foods;

melon: starchy foods, grains, fried foods, cheese;

starchy foods: bananas, milk;

honey: hot food;

radish: raisins, bananas, milk;

nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers), cucumber, melon, milk and dairy products;

lemon: tomatoes, cucumbers, milk and dairy products;

corn: dates, raisins, bananas;

eggs: milk, yogurt, cheese, fruit, potatoes.

Especially should avoid such mixtures as banana milkshake and a Popsicle made with milk. Fruit salads of several different fruits are also undesirable.

The negative effects of eating poorly combined foods can be mitigated using herbs and spices.

But the best way to cope with the consequences helps a strong Agni (digestive fire). In order to stimulate it useful to chew before eating a piece of fresh ginger, and drink ginger tea.
