Kidney development of clusters of cells (video)





Scientists demonstrated the process of turning a group of cells into a complex organ. The video below demonstrates the development of the mouse kidney. The process resembles the growth of branches of the tree. Images should help to better understand the early stages of development of organs in mammals.

Researchers from the Roslin Institute in Edinburgh used time-lapse photography to record the process of growth and development of the kidney in experimental mice. The experts identified a key protein beta-catenin, which gives cells instructions for formation of specific structures within the kidneys – the nephrons are responsible for filtration of blood plasma and urine formation.



As the newspaper writes Daily Mail, the yellow part on the video display locations of the greatest activity of beta-catenin. Scientists have found that altering the activity of proteins in different sites, you can manage the process of development of kidneys.

Incorrect work of nephrons can cause many different health problems, from loss of body water and salts to high blood pressure. The researchers hope to grow nephrons in the laboratory for more in-depth study of the functions of the kidneys.
