Recently, Dubai announced a strategy associated with the construction using a 3D printer: the government plans that by 2030, 25% of all buildings in this city will be printed. The first step was the opening of the printed office in the city centre. The print details and the erection of a single storey building of 250 square meters took 17 days and 140 thousand dollars, which is two times cheaper than construction of the same building using traditional methods.
For printing of modules for construction of the building used the printer two stories tall, with a length of 36 meters and a width of 12 meters. At work the machine was monitored by one person. After you print the modules, they were transported to the construction site, where a team of 17 workers collected the building and equip it.
"Today we announce the opening of the first in the world printed on a 3D printer office, less than a month after the launch of the strategy of 3D printing in Dubai, which shows the modern model of construction. This experience in the implementation of the technology of the future we show the world and represents a new milestone in the UAE as a world leader in the field of strategic achievements," said Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, Emir of Dubai, at the opening of the office. "This project will be an example that will benefit regulators, as well as the research centres at the regional and international levels in the field of application of 3D printing technology. We document this experience and will receive from him the most important lessons that will serve as benchmarks to raise the technology to a new level."
According to Sheikh, the competitive advantages of 3D printing — namely, low cost and high speed of delivery, will make the UAE one of the most important and stable economic centers, allowing efficient use of technology in the future.
Printed the office is a one-storey building of complex shape with an area of 250 square meters. It has electricity, water, telecommunications equipment, the air conditioning system. This is a common office construction which used printed using a special composition of parts. The printer used a mixture of cement, reinforced plastic and fiberglass reinforced gypsum. These materials were tested in China and in the UK to test their reliability. Form details (the arc, you can see in the video above) due to the security of people and stability of the building.
The developers have taken a number of measures to improve the energy efficiency of buildings in the climate conditions of Dubai.
The building will become the temporary headquarters of the Dubai Future Foundation, and next year will become a Museum of the Future.
