7 ways to stop the time

When enjoy, I want it to be forever. How to organize it, says writer and entrepreneur Laura Vanderkam.

In his youth Leto, it seems, stretches endlessly. But the older you are, the faster they run, the days merging together, and June flows in September so rapidly that you begin to think: how to slow down time?

There is one obvious way to do it. Studies of subjective perception of time shows that unpleasant classes and feelings — for example, to stand in airport security lines or suffer from food poisoning — and really make every moment painfully slow.

But of course, few people want to stretch the time in this way. Writes Claudia Hammond in the book about the perception of time Warped, "it is highly likely that if in your life time goes fast, your life is full of work, meaning and satisfaction." The question is rather different: is it possible to equalize the rate of flow of pleasant and unpleasant moments?

In short, no. However, it is possible to make the time passed not so quickly and more extensively — both in the moment and in your memory. Here are seven techniques that help to achieve this.

1. Try to keep track of the time

When you regularly think about time, you no longer have the feeling that you don't understand, where did the last three weeks. You know where they are because you are regularly recorded. There are apps like Smarter Time, which helps track your time easily, but then lost the sense that work is necessary. So use a spreadsheet or Notepad.

2. Make something new

For children time is running faster, including the fact that for them everything is new. The brain rapidly processes new information and, therefore, time does not freeze. For this reason, the first day of the holiday seems a long, you study the new situation and new conditions. But daily life can be deduced from the autopilot. Adjust the route by which you get to work. Dine elsewhere. Instead of the usual evening Affairs go somewhere with the family. A weekend trip (all day) to some interesting place — then you will feel like the weekend lasted only two days, and more.

3. Do something frightening

People often remember the accident as if in slow motion. The experiments in which people were awed confirm that the brain works this way. During intense time slows down: the brain is actively trying to capture everything he could possibly need for your survival. To create a similar experience, but more positive, do something that is outside of comfortable behavior. Sing at a friend's wedding, jump with a parachute, take a trip alone to a foreign country. In any case, it you will long be remembered.

4. Search for the thread

The famous psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi has shown that people are happier when experiencing the feeling of "flow" when they are deeply immersed in some activities (drawing, woodwork, playing a musical instrument, etc.), which requires them to maximize the application of their skills and abilities. This feeling changes the perception of time. There is a subtlety: for some people "flow" seems to accelerate over time, and for some, on the contrary, as if it stops. But anyway, "flow" helps keep the feeling of the moment and stops the endless chewing because of which the time flies imperceptibly.

5. Do not try to fill the time

TV or social networks — a very pleasant way to occupy yourself and spend a few hours. But if you're trying to slow down the passage of time, it is not necessary to distract their attention from the way it is. Avoid operating the TV at eight in the evening — better get outside, watch the sunset, then poglazeyte on the stars. Leave the phone at home. This time will seem infinitely long and ambitious.

6. Not in a hurry

One study of time perception has shown that "feelings of employment, haste, lack of time associated with the feeling that time is passing quickly." If you spend a few extra minutes to do something in a more relaxed pace, it is unlikely to lead to disaster. The lack of haste has other advantages: if you ask someone how things, and listen carefully to the answer, it will help you improve the relationship (which will not work if you just throw on the run, "Hello"). Repeat to yourself: "I Have all the time I need." You'll see a whole lot of difference.

7. Capture memories

The moment is fleeting, but always seems more fulfilling when you have a live and vivid memories. How to achieve this? Take pictures, describe their impressions, and then iterate these reminders and share your stories with others. As you can probably guess, people show vacation photos, not in order to please others. They are doing it for themselves — that their memories have not disappeared in the past without a trace.
