How much unskilled young people to build the atomic bomb?
Anxious little as okazalos
In 1964, the Pentagon wanted to know whether it is possible for someone with brains, but without access to the secret research could assemble a nuclear bomb. To this end, they hired Dave Dobson and Bob Selden, who was at the time 20 and 28 years respectively.
Both young men were candidates of physical sciences, but not dealt with nuclear reactions and did not even have minimum access to research. The secret operation was code-named "Project of the country N», and everything that young people do, were classified as "top secret" - they have the right to do or not.
Ironically, those two amateurs generously helped to information released through the program "Atoms for Peace" proposed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to disseminate information about the benefits of non-military use of nuclear energy worldwide.
They ended after two years. They were kept in the dark about whether they succeed or not, but after two weeks of intense questioning senior researcher Jim Frank averted them aside to explain the results. He said something that they built, can make a spectacular explosion. When they asked how big, he replied: "The same order as the Hiroshima».
"Pretty sad to know that this could be so easy", - said Dobson. The atomic bomb was so simple that Dobson and Seldon left, feeling a strong concern regarding their knowledge and skills.
