All imitation! Here’s what struck the examination of crab meat
With the arrival of cold weather, many hostesses prepare more nutritious dishes: meat soups, mayonnaise salads, sausage snacks. And no festive event is complete without a salad with crab sticks or crab-meat.
We all know that this product has nothing to do with crabs, however, we choose it to create different dishes, as well as a quick snack.
Crab meat
Experts of the Union of consumers “Roskontrol” decided to figure out what is hidden inside a transparent package with the inscription “Crab meat”. That is why they selected 5 products of the most popular brands and sent samples for examination.

The following brands took part in the study: Vici, Russian Sea, Meridian / Snow Crab, Santa Bremor, D (Dixie). Each of them does not hide the fact that inside there is a fake crab meat, and its imitation. Also, manufacturers indicate that the product includes phosphates, sodium glutamate and sodium sorbate.
Therefore, when buying crab meat of these brands, you need to focus on the ingredient list and carefully study each label.
Many consumers often buy this product in the hope of finding an equivalent replacement for fish. But this is a misconception, because crab meat contains 3-3.5 times less protein than fish.
Also, manufacturers clearly spared fat for the manufacture of crab meat. In "Meridian" and "Dixy" fat is much less (0.25%, not 3.2% and 0.1%, not 3.5%, respectively), and in crab meat "Russian Sea" and "Santa Bremor" fat was not found at all.
But despite all this, according to the examination, all 5 samples are absolutely safe to use. After all, the content of toxic elements in them is much lower than acceptable, E. coli bacteria were not found, and preservatives were found only in the brand "Dixy", and even then in an acceptable amount.
Despite the consoling forecasts of the examination, our editorial board urges consumers not to forget that in crab-meat includes dyes, stabilizers, emulsifiers and moisture retention agents. If possible, try to use this product as little as possible, especially for children.
