How to Help Your Skin With Sunburn
We are all used, going to the sea, to put a jar or tube of Pantenol in our medicine cabinet. This is the only way everyone escapes from burns, which can be obtained, for the first time in a year, showing the hot summer sun. It is believed that Pantenol is an ambulance for burns, and we all actively used this tool. However, it turned out that everything is not so simple with him...
Today's edition. "Site" It tells you whether you can apply Pantenol to fresh burns and whether it will help healing.
Now, at the height of the summer season, the topic of sunburn is especially relevant. That is why the All-Ukrainian Union of Paramedics decided to give people important recommendations on this issue. Particular emphasis was placed on the use of Pantenol. Paramedics said that “Pantenol” in any case should not be used to treat burns. Let's figure out why.
First, doctors pointed out that Pantenol is primarily a wound healing agent. The fact that the drug helps with burns, not said a word. Although it is written on some tubes and cylinders, it is still primarily said about wound healing properties.
Secondly, paramedics noted the composition and drug, analyzing each of its components. The main active ingredient of the drug is dexpanthenol (provitamin B5). During metabolism, dexpanthenol is oxidized to panthenolic acid, which provides skin regeneration.
Further, the composition is cetostearyl alcohol, which in itself negatively affects the burn. It is used as a thickener in the production of creams and ointments. By itself, it is not toxic, but can have adverse effects on the skin. For example, contact urticaria may occur.
Next we see auxiliary substances, none of which are used in the treatment of burns. For example, propylene glycol, which has bactericidal properties, potassium dihydrophosphate, which regulates acidity, and tetrafluoroethane, which provides cooling. As you can see, none of this is intended for use on burns.
Yes, dexapanthenol really restores and protects the skin, having a wound healing effect, as indicated on the package. However, the wound begins to heal from about the 5th day, and before that, Pantenol will not help, but even worsen the situation.
The fact is that "Pantenol", applied to the burn, forms a thick layer of foam. This in turn blocks the only way to cool the wound. Thus, the heat has nowhere to go, only inside, aggravating the burn. Normal physics.
This is why you should not apply "Pantenol" on a fresh burn. The only thing that really needs to be done is to moisten and cool the wound. Help cold compresses and abstinence from sunbathing. And Pantenol will be needed only after 5 days to heal the wounds from burns.
Getting sunburn is easy and easy, especially on the first day of vacation, when you just want to lie on the beach and enjoy the warmth. Despite all your wishes, do not forget to follow the rules. This is not so difficult: do not be in the sun in the hottest hours and use sunscreen. That's the secret.
