Why children do not take away a sharply aged mother
I've always admired you. village life. Local residents give all their strength to work and economy. This does not prevent them from loving what they do and what surrounds them. What is the value of their attachment to their home!
There really is some magic in the village. There may have been several generations of people who filled it with memories. But, sooner or later, every home is broken. And what if there is no money for major repairs or new housing? Can I have some help?
Nina Ivanovna wrote a letter to our editorial office asking for help. An older woman doesn’t know what to do because life in the countryside is getting harder and harder every year. And her children forever deprived her of hope for a happy old age. Let's find out what happened.
I was born in a village and have lived there all my life. In our small house on the outskirts of the village lived and my parents, and grandparents, and even great-grandmother. When you enter it, you feel a special atmosphere and energy.
I brought my fiancé here when I was young. My only daughter also grew up. It is hard to imagine how much this house has survived. His life was pretty battered: he sat down, mold appeared, and somewhere the floors began to rot. The musty smell is so ingrained in the furniture that sometimes it is difficult for me to breathe while I am inside.
We never had the money to repair our family. We tried to solve small problems as they came. Now I realize that my cozy little nest just fell into disrepair. But I have nowhere to go...
One day I met an old friend who lives in another part of the village. Tamara glittered with happiness: “Slim, you know, my son bought me a new house.” He says he wants me to live close to him and be there for him. At that moment, I could barely stop crying. I wish I was in Tamara’s place... But I know my daughter doesn't have that kind of money. I can only dream.
Literally a couple of days after this meeting, my daughter called me. She said she had a surprise for me. I was taken by car to a new 3-room apartment. Think of it! I couldn't believe my eyes. I was glad that my daughter and son-in-law would take me home and everything would be fine.
The apartment was freshly renovated, everything so clean and well maintained. Just heaven! I immediately asked my daughter, “Yulechka, please show me my room.” But my request seems to have put her in a stupor. “Mom, we brought you here to show you our apartment. We took out a loan and will now live here. I'm sorry, I didn't want you to think we'd take you home.”
And then she said there wasn't enough room for all of us. After all, soon a baby will be born, and in a year they want to have another child. What a surprise! I guess it's my fault. She built castles in her head, a dreamy old woman! Children don’t care about me, they live their lives.
I was hurt to tears. I know that no one owes me anything. I lied to the kids about making an appointment with the doctor and left. I took the last bus home. And then for a few days I couldn’t find a place. I was hoping that Julia would call me and call me. What a fool I am...
Of course no one called me. I sit by the window, next to the old cat Timka. And so lonely at heart: no one needs me and the cat, we are not waiting anywhere. And I can’t blame Julka for anything: the girl builds her life. But what am I supposed to do?
Adult children are not always ready to help their elderly parents. Someone simply does not have the opportunity to do this, and someone ignores relatives consciously. One way or another, unfortunately, we can only rely on our own strength.
I’m not going to condemn Yulia’s actions, because it’s more important for her to create. The most comfortable conditions for future children. However, it seems to me that she and her husband could find a solution to my mother’s problem. For example, sell an old house in the village to buy a small, even the simplest one in the city. What do you think?
Write in the comments what you think about this and what advice you would give Nina Ivanovna. Wait for you downstairs!
