Kutya, as my parents said, honey can not spoil. They say that the more generous the Christmas kutya, the richer the harvest will be and the better the family will live next year. Therefore, it is so important that kutya with honey, nuts and raisins, which we offer to prepare, turned out to be really tasty.
Kutya with honey Ingredients
- 1 tbsp (200g) wheat
- 4 tables of water
- 125g poppy
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 100g raisins
- 50g butter
- 100g roasted walnuts
- 4 tbsp honey
- pinch
Preparation
- Go through and rinse the wheat. So that wheat is cooked quickly, and the main dish of the Christmas table was not spoiled, you should choose peeled and polished cereals - this is cooked faster.
- Pour it with water and leave it overnight to swell.
- In the morning, drain the water, replace it with a new one, add a pinch of salt and cook wheat over a small heat for 2 hours until the grains begin to open. It is better to cook wheat in a pot with a thick bottom. So the cereal is evenly cooked and will not burn.
- Add butter to the still warm porridge. This will make the wheat taste better.
- Pour the poppy with boiling water and leave for 1 hour. Throw it on a sieve so the glass is all liquid. To get more milk from the poppy, you can not just steam it with boiling water, but boil it in a glass of water for 30 minutes.
- Rub the poppy with sugar in the mortar until the appearance of white milk. You can, of course, in a blender. But poppy rubbed in a mortar is something!
- Soak the raisins for 20 minutes in boiling water.
- Roast the nuts for 2-3 minutes in a pan. Fragment.
- To the cooled wheat add poppy, nuts and honey. Stir it well.
- Kutia and honey are ready. Leave her in the fridge for 1 hour to make her brew.
- Before serving on the table, you can decorate the Christmas cottage with cereals and nuts. Bon appetit!
According to church canons, on Christmas Eve on the table must be kutya, which symbolizes the sacrifice to God. Together with it there should be 12 lean dishes – according to the number of apostles of Jesus Christ.
It is not necessary to use wheat for kutya! If you do not like wheat porridge, cook a kutya from rice, barley or bulgur.
