Totem produces energy, distributes Internet and charging electric cars

The new York startup Totem Power proposes to build the city's network of devices, reminiscent of lampposts, which are able to produce and store solar energy, distribute the Internet, to illuminate the streets and charge electric vehicles. The main purpose of Totem to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in large cities, where it produces 70% of the total CO2. Design Totem Power has two advantages: the system will continue to produce energy and to distribute Wi-Fi when you disconnect the mains and other disasters, and also plays an important role in smart power grids, which in future will help to balance the power distribution system.

Smart grid consisting of such pillars can manage the workload during peak slightly reducing the power to the devices of the Internet of things: small voltage variations do not have significant impact on their work. While such savings on multiple devices significantly reduces energy demand during peak hours.

"Totem believes that design can change the way the world works, says Brian Lecamp, CEO and founder of Totem Power. — The challenge before us is to understand the full potential of transformation of energy, providing settlements and corporations intelligent, experimental and beautiful structures... We build technology for tomorrow's cities."

Energy, communications and transport must undergo a radical transformation to provide new needs really smart, clean cities, said in a press release.

Similar, though more simple smart lampposts installed power San Jose instead of destroyed by vandals. They may not be so much — just to illuminate the streets with led lights and collect data on energy consumption. But they work now.

P. S. And remember, only by changing their consumption — together we change the world! ©
