Dragon fruit - pitahaya

Eastern legends say that the prickly pear fruits were the result of battles with dragons. When the monster is no longer able to produce flames from his mouth flew the dragon fruit. It was believed that he placed deep in the body of the dragon, where the most delicious meat. The love for this fruit has led to the fact that all the dragons destroyed. It turns out that dragons have become extinct and the fruits of bizarre shapes and colour, to resemble the scales of the monsters of the legends, and grow to this day.


Actually pitahaya is of different types. They differ in color of skin and pulp, shape and size, taste and presence of plaques or growths of the skin. Generally there are three kinds of red (that's her in Vietnam for the bizarre shape and the color is called "dragon fruit"), Costa Rica, and yellow. Accordingly, the red dragon fruit has red-pink skin and white flesh, Costa Rica and the peel and pulp of red color, a yellow pitahaya has a yellow rind, but inside she's white. The sweet is considered a fruit yellow in color, they also have a quite strong smell. The red pitaya has a more fresh taste and a light herbaceous aroma.


Eat pitahaya raw, cut in half and directly with a spoon scooping out the flesh from the skin. You can simply clean the fruit from the skin, cut into pieces and add to fruit salad or cocktail.


Pitahaya is well absorbed by the body, it is useful for upset stomach. Especially valuable this property when traveling in an exotic country. Dragon fruit normalizes the stomach and intestines, helps with bloating. Useful dragon fruit and people with diabetes. But it is not only the flesh but also the seeds, rich in tannin. Due to the content of this substance pitahaya useful for those who have deteriorating eyesight. High calcium content in this fruit makes up for its reserves, because it plays a very important role in the work of all systems and processes in the body.
