Google will develop a flying wind turbine

Not so long ago it became known that the company Google X, the research division of Google, bought the California startup company Macani Power, which is the developer of technology flying wind turbine Airborne Wind Turbine (AWT).
It should be noted that Google is the main investor, which allocated $ 10 million to finance the Macani Rower project in 2006, and another $ 5 million in the following year.
Later, in 2010, the company received a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA-E) to develop a prototype of this Wing 7 turbine.

Tied to the ground, the giant wing is equipped with turbines that work like simple wind turbines – the airflow rotates them and drives the generator to generate electricity. But, as reported by Makani, it is the installation of wind turbines in the flying wing that makes it possible to increase the performance by about 2 times, compared to a standard wind turbine of the same scale. At the same time, the materials for the construction of AWT are required much less.
