Eve sports car - the fastest solar-powered car

Solar-powered sports car

The Australian team Sunswift from the University of New South Wales (Australia) broke the record held for 26 years, creating a new sports car Eve on solar panels. We are talking about running at a distance of 310 miles (500 km) without recharging the battery.

Sunswift managed to drive this distance in its electric car at an average speed of more than 100 km / h. The previous record, which was set almost three decades ago, was 73 km / h.

It is worth noting that in the piggy bank of the Australian team Sunswift already has one world record - their previous prototype of a solar-powered car, built in 2011, was able to accelerate to 88 km / h.

The Eve is the team’s fifth prototype, and can travel more than 500 kilometers on a single charge or about 800 kilometers using a solar system to provide additional energy while driving (integrated solar panels are on the hood and roof).

In order to qualify for the record, the team during the test run did not use a system of built-in solar panels, the entire run was made only on a charged battery, without the use of generated energy.

Eve has come such a long way to show the world that electric cars can be a viable alternative to gasoline cars.

Some people are wary of switching to eco-friendly cars, believing that such vehicles cannot achieve impressive speeds. But the Sunswift Eve, which has a top speed of 140 kilometers per hour, shows that electric power can be used even in sports cars.

The cost of Eve at the moment is not small – a car, the body of which is made of carbon fiber and weighs only 300 kg, costs almost half a million dollars. But the team Sunswift does not intend to stop there and announced the beginning of work on cheapening the car and adapting it for use in the city. A new version of Eve is scheduled for 2015.
