What all devices connected to the Internet look like on the map

Have you ever wondered how many devices are connected to the Internet? Where is the greatest concentration? One person did an interesting experiment and did a global PING of all the computers, smart things and appliances connected to the Internet.

This person was John Matterly, the founder of the search engine Shodan, which is the world’s first search engine on the Internet of Things. Its search engine allows smart home equipment manufacturers to determine which of their appliances are currently connected to the Internet and where they are located.

John pinged all devices that have access to the Internet and, based on the data obtained, created a map of the world, where clusters of devices discovered by him are marked.

No one will be surprised to see that the greatest concentration of Internet connections is in the United States, the east coast of South America, Europe, India, China and Japan. The least Internet users in Africa, Australia, Greenland, Canada, Alaska and northern Russia.

As for Russia, the maximum number of Internet connections is registered in the European part of the country, especially around Moscow and St. Petersburg. The further east, the lower the concentration of Internet connections.

You can’t be sure that John Matterly’s experiment reflects 100% of all devices connected to the Internet, but in any case, the result of this study looks quite interesting, and the resulting “Internet Map” looks very cute.
