In Amsterdam the old shipyard used as shops and offices

Previously De Ceuvel (De Ceval), a beautiful multifunctional urban oasis in Amsterdam, was a vacant place. The brainchild of Dutch design firm space&matter, De Ceval currently thriving and emphasizes the benefits of recycling materials, also helping to restore the landscape. Grassy mounds, old floating houses, shops and a public restaurant is constantly impatient to welcome visitors wishing to enjoy this place.





The municipality of Amsterdam granted space&matter and partners access to the place De Ceuvel with a 10-year lease. Due to the temporary nature of the project, the budget designers was very limited.

Development desirable space, space&matter decided to emphasize recycled, reused and found materials to create your urban oasis. Construction on site is also simple move that will make them transported at the time when the lease expires.





In De Cavale facing the channel, coastal catering, path and Park area. Taking inspiration from previous life as a shipping yard, the designers have used used floating homes for the cemeteries of old cars, for use as shops, offices, workshops and meeting places. The coming boats and the bamboo path connecting them, cleaning the soil with plants that help filter any toxins left in the ground.





It is planned that over the next 10 years, De Cavale will serve as an urban destination, which will offer not only Park space, but the venue, restaurants and creative boutiques, which otherwise will remain just untapped.
